Abstract: An experiment testing the charge symmetry of the strong
nuclear interaction has been conducted at the Clinton B. Anderson Meson
Physics Facility. Measurements were made of partial-total cross sections
for (pi+d and pi-d) scattering at eight incident pion kinetic energies
from 100 to 260 MeV into angles greater than 30 degrees. Neglecting Coulomb
effects, which are small at large scattering angles, the (pi+d) cross sections
should be identical to (pi-d) cross sections if charge symmetry is valid.
Preliminary results, which indicate an asymmetry of as much as a few percent
will be compared to previous measurements.
