Cata-Danil (Yale University)Abstract: Monte Carlo simulations using the ion-optical code RAYTRACE were performed and produced results closely resembling the experimental behavior. Sensitivities on the focussing properties of the gas-filled magnet of the critical input parametershave been studied. Parameters investigated were the object and image distance, the strength and geometry of the magnetic field, the target and foil thickness, the gas pressure, and the strength of the fringing field. Correlations between the position of the reaction products in the focal plane and various parameters such as the energy of the beam, the gas pressure, and the strength of the magnetic field were made. This "calibration" of the simulations assists in the design of future experiments. |
