Oros (University of Gent, Belgium) Abstract: The nature of K=0+ excitations in deformed nuclei has become the focus of great debate and controversy in nuclear structure physics. An important consideration in discussions of the characterization of the low-lying K=0+ bands is the certainty that all such bands have been observed and their degrees of collectivity. Many of the early two-particle transfer reactions studies were limited to 18-19 MeV incident proton beams and may have missed on the observation of K=0+ bands near or above 2 MeV. We have measured angular distributions at five laboratory angles (6, 10, 15, 20 and 30 degrees) for the 160Gd(p,t)158Gd reaction. The experiment was carried out at the Munich MP tandem accelerator using 27 MeV protons. The outgoing particles were analyzed using the Q3D magnetic spectrometer. Resulting distributions were compared with DWBA calculations. We will report on the observation of several new K=0+ bands. |
