Vander Molen Abstract: Multiplicities of charged particles and intermediate mass fragments (IMFs) were measured for the systems 58Fe + 58Fe and 58Ni + 58Ni at 45,55,65,75, and 105 MeV/n. A systematic enhancement of IMF production was found for the neutron rich Fe system for 45-75 MeV/n. However, at 105 MeV/n the two systems show near identical IMF production. Using predictions from three different models this effect can be qualitatively explained by the transition between an evaporative and explosive reaction mechanism. |
