Dean Jones says:

"You make some persuasive points. Yes, research is very important to our college as we face re-accreditation review in only a couple of years.  If you will agree to focus your time during the summer on writing and getting papers published, then I will agree to reduce the number of summer sessions to one.  I'll also agree to raise your salary to the 34th percentile.

This is the contract package I'd like to offer you:

**ONE guaranteed trip to a conference each year for two years

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$10,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

 **A nine-month salary at the 34th percentile

**Required to teach one summer sessions, none of which count toward your teaching load

**Three-days-a-week teaching schedule for Fall and two-days-a-week teaching schedule for the following Spring."

Your Response:

1.  It is good...but not quite good enough...

2.  I appreciate getting the summer teaching load down to only one summer session.  That will free up a lot of my time for writing.  Can I also get that one summer course to count toward my normal, nine-month, teaching load?

3.  I appreciate getting the summer teaching load down to only one summer session.  May I also have a graduate student to work for me as a "grader"?  That will free up a lot of my time for writing.

4.  I appreciate getting the summer teaching load down to only one summer session.  That will free up a lot of my time for writing.  Can I also get a larger allowance for hardware and software?
