Dean Jones says:

"May I see your printout?

(the Dean examines it silently)

Well, it is good to see that you haven't 'cherry-picked' Ph.D. schools -- or schools that are in high cost of living areas.  Indeed, many of the schools are much like ours.   You have obviously 'done your homework' -- I like that in a new faculty member!

Our college staff has also researched the market, and our figures are much like what you report.

Very well, I'll raise my offer to the 50th percentile, which is the average of what other schools are paying.  And, just to 'sweeten the deal' I'll offer to fund one graduate research assistant for one year.  How does that sound?

Therefore, this is the contract package I'd like to offer you:

**ONE guaranteed trip to a conference each year for two years

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$10,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**One graduate research assistant for one year

 **A nine-month salary at the 50th percentile

**Required to teach one summer sessions, none of which count toward your teaching load

**Three-days-a-week teaching schedule for Fall and two-days-a-week teaching schedule for the following Spring.

**Has authorization to use multiple-choice tests exclusively."

Your Response:

1.  It is good...

2.  yyy

3.  You have far more experience in these matters than I do.  Is there any other way that you can support the research program of the college (including my own)?
