Research Laboratory, Software, Computer and Other Equipment

Assume that you are a researcher who wants to study group processes and how they affect group decision making in business organizations.  With this goal in mind, you want a laboratory, where groups can discuss, debate, and make decisions -- and every interaction will be recorded with the latest digital audio and video recording equipment.

However, you know that such a studio would cost a lot of money.  Therefore, you are willing to negotiate over the hardware costs of the laboratory and the other equipment, including a fairly sophisticated computer processor to handle all of the data you are collecting.

All together, equipment will cost between $10,000 - $20,000.  The price is negotiable with your dean.  You want the dean to pay more, so you can collect and analyze large data sets quickly.

You also need some expensive software to analyze the data you collect in your lab.  Depending upon the features of the software you purchase, the price will cost between $1,000 and $1,400.  You want the dean to buy you some nice, expensive software that will be able to work with large data sets.

While you have an active research program, based on your research of this university, you are a bit concerned that a few of your future colleagues are simply "resting on their laurels" and do not seem to be actively engaged in research.  This is disappointing, because you want to work in a stimulating, intellectual environment.
