Dean Jones says:

"Good!  We have an agreement.  I'll have the secretary type it up and submit it to Human Resources.

Here is the new contract package:

**ONE graduate assistant for TWO years.

**FOUR guaranteed trips to conferences each year for two years

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$10,222 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**A nine-month salary at the 55th percentile

**Required to teach TWO summer sessions (each with high enrollment caps), neither of which count toward your teaching load

**Three-day a week teaching schedule."

Critique:

This was a pretty good contract for you.  You got lots of improvements over the Dean's initial offers.  REFLECT:  How did you get these?  What tactics did you use?

Perhaps most important, you got a reduction in your summer teaching load, from three summer sessions to two.  That is important because it gives you free time to write -- and to complete a sufficient number of research projects so you can present those projects at the four conferences you'll be attending each year!

You may wish to try again to see if you can negotiate an even better deal...
