Dean Jones says:

"Glad we have an agreement!  (pausing, while looking closely at a spreadsheet).  You know I have a bit of extra money in the budget to allocate towards software.  Just to 'sweeten the deal' I can add $489 to your software budget.

Recall that these are the terms of our contract:

**ONE guaranteed trip to a conference each year for two years.  At each  conference you will agree to recruit and interview job candidates for our college, if there is a need.

**You also agree to spend ten hours in the summer recruiting high school seniors to our university.

**$1,489 for software to analyze data

**$15,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**A nine-month salary at the 74th percentile; in return you promise to develop an plan for an Executive Education program.  The written plan is due one year from today.

**One graduate research assistant for TWO calendar years

**Required to teach four summer sessions, none of which count toward your teaching load

**You will serve on a summer task force to re-design the core curriculum in the college of business.

**Five-days-a-week teaching schedule for this Fall.

**Three-days-a-week (with 20% larger class sizes per class) for your teaching schedule next Spring."

Critique:

This was a pretty good settlement.  You got a good salary for someone new to the profession and you got a good software package.  You got a graduate student for two years.  However, you have a fairly heavy teaching load (especially in the summers) -- and you only got one guaranteed trip per year.  If you want to see if you can do better, click here to return to the beginning of the Simulator.
