Dean Jones says:
"Sorry, but I've gone as high as I am prepared to go on the salary. Perhaps there is something else you need from another category...Is there a specific need that this proposal is not meeting?
Recall that this is my proposal:
**ONE guaranteed trip to a conference each year for two years. At each conference you will agree to recruit and interview job candidates for our college, if there is a need.
**You also agree to spend ten hours in the summer recruiting high school seniors to our university.
**$1,000 for software to analyze data
**$15,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)
**A nine-month salary at the 74th percentile; in return you promise to develop an plan for an Executive Education program. The written plan is due one year from today.
**One graduate research assistant for TWO calendar years
**Required to teach four summer sessions, none of which count toward your teaching load
**You will serve on a summer task force to re-design the core curriculum in the college of business
**Five-day a week teaching schedule."
Your response:
1. I have a very active research program: While I am grateful for the $1,000 software offer, I'm not sure that it will be adequate. Perhaps that could be increased to, say, $5,000.
2. I have a very active research program: I'd like to be able to travel to three more guaranteed conferences per year, to stay current with my field and to 'network.' This would be in addition to the one annual trip where I present my research. I'm asking you for extra funding for travel, even when I don't present research papers.
3. I have a very active research program: I'd like to have "big blocks of time" for writing and, to be honest, a five-day-a-week teaching schedule won't allow for that. Perhaps we could restructure that...
