Dean Jones says:

I too, have interests...(pause)...

Did you consider that I have interests?

For example, I'd like to see our university become known as a 'world-class undergraduate research institution'.  To achieve that goal, it is important that all new hires -- including you -- involve some undergraduates in their research.

Here is how I propose linking your interests with my interests:

Year 1:  You get one graduate research assistant and you supervise one undergraduate research project.

Year 2:  You get one graduate research assistant and you supervise two undergraduate research projects.

Year 3:  You get two graduate research assistants and you supervise four undergraduate research projects.

How does this sound to you?

Your response:

1.    That works for me.  I accept your offer.

2.    Not good enough...I think you should up it to TWO graduate research assistants in Year 2 and lower the number of undergraduate research projects in Year 3 from "four" to "three".
