Dean Jones says:

"Whoa!  I never said anything about splitting revenues with you!

(pause)

However, now that you mention it, splitting revenues is an intriguing idea...and it certainly makes up for the low 9-month salary that we are offering you.

How about this:  In return for giving you a one-fourth (25%) share of the revenues from executive-education, I will drop the requirement that you teach summer school.  Conducting executive workshops will pay you more and last a shorter period of time than teaching undergraduate summer courses.  Thus, teaching them will have the added benefit of freeing up more of your time for your research program.

Therefore, this is the contract package I'd like to offer you:

**TWO guaranteed trips to conferences each year for two years, provided you recruit at those conferences.

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$10,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**One graduate research assistant for one year

 **A nine-month salary at the 34th percentile

**Required to teach one summer executive education session; revenues will be split 75% to the university and 25% to you.

**Three-days-a-week teaching schedule for Fall and two-days-a-week teaching schedule for the following Spring."

Your Response:

1.  It is good...I accept.

2.  Only 25% for me?  I'm doing all the work, and I only get 25%?

3.  Flip those percentages around -- 75% for me -- and you've got yourself a deal!
