Dean Jones says:

"Well, there are many ways to keep up with cutting edge knowledge...I don't think that paying for FOUR trips to conferences is the best way to accomplish that goal.

Besides, there are other considerations:  If I pay for you to get four trips then everyone else in the college will be asking for the same thing -- and I can't afford that.

Also, your demand for a salary at the 99th percentile is ludicrous.  You have no work experience!"

How will you respond?

1.  I think you will find that, when you see what I produce (in terms of quantity and quality of research), that four conference trips and a salary at the 99th percentile is well worth your investment.

2.  With all due respect sir, I think you are 'framing' this problem incorrectly:  If you don't invest in faculty like me, you will be 'missing out'.  Can you afford NOT to send me to four conferences or to pay me at the 99th percentile?

3.  You have more experience in these matters than I do, sir.  What do you suggest that is fair to me -- and fair to the other faculty members in the College of Business?
