1.    "If the odds are not very good, why should I waste my time writing a grant request?  Frankly, I would prefer some guaranteed funding from the business college for my software needs."

2.   "I will accept that challenge:  I think I can write a compelling, competitive grant proposal that will convince the members of the Technology Committee to hand over fistfuls of money!"
