Dean Jones says:

"Hmmm...I suppose I could bump up your salary a little bit more IF you agree to serve on a summer committee to re-design our college core curriculum.  That will probably take about twenty hours of your time and would be in addition to your summer teaching load.  I'm a bit hesitant to make this offer because I generally like to protect my new faculty from excessive service obligations until after they have mastered their teaching and gotten their own research programs underway.

Here is my proposal:

**ONE guaranteed trip to a conference each year for two years.  At each  conference you will agree to recruit and interview job candidates for our college, if there is a need.

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$15,000 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**A nine-month salary at the 72nd percentile; in return you promise to develop an plan for an Executive Education program.  The written plan is due one year from today.

**One graduate research assistant for TWO calendar years

**Required to teach four summer sessions, none of which count toward your teaching load

**You will serve on a summer task force to re-design the core curriculum in the college of business

**Five-day a week teaching schedule."

What do you think?"

Your response:

1.  "I accept your generous offer."

2.  "The extra work won't be a problem for me.  However, the salary still seems rather low."
