Dean Jones says:

"This isn't that fast-food restaurant chain where you can 'have it your way!'  I've already raised your salary, reduced your teaching days, and increased the number of conference trips that I'm paying for...

What am I getting for my money?!?

(long pause...)

Here is an adjustment that I can make.  Equipment comes out of a different budget line than travel.  So I can increase your hardware budget by $320.  That's not much I know; I can also cut the number of summer sessions you teach from three to two.  You can take in more students in the two sessions you do offer and that will maintain your summer income while also giving you more free time to write.

What do I get for my money?  Some cutting-edge research papers, I hope!!!

This is the new contract package I'd like to offer you:

**TWO guaranteed trips to conferences each year for two years

**$1,000 for software to analyze data

**$10,320 for hardware (i.e., special computer processor and other equipment)

**A nine-month salary at the 57th percentile

**Required to teach TWO summer sessions (with no upper cap on student enrollment); neither of these summer sessions will count toward your teaching load

**Three-day a week teaching schedule."

How will you respond?

1.  I accept your generous offer.

2.  That offer will not meet my concerns.
