Research
I study plant community responses to human impacts of many types: biological invasions, climate change, and habitat fragmentation. I find myself increasingly drawn to the science and practice of ecological restoration, which offers the opportunity to address basic ecological questions in an applied context.
My focus is on manipulative experiments that yield mechanistic insights as to the behavior of ecological systems. My collaborations with land managers assure that I am producing information that is useful to conservation efforts. And by collaborating with theoretical and landscape ecologists I can apply experimental results at larger scales.
